"ABOUT THE HERO SERIES"

The  Hero  Series  is  a  computation  of  four  novels  depicted  from  the eyes of young people struggling to make important decisions in their lives.  The  books  serve as a learning tool to help young people come to grips with the realities of everyday pressures.  Each  book  is  embedded with the word "Hero" in them: My Friend My Hero; He Was My Hero Two; A Fallen Hero and Hoop  Hero.  The  "Hero" as defined  in  Webster's  dictionary  would  describe  a  Hero  as  a, "brave,   noble  person…esp. a  man."  And  also as in the case of a book to be, "a central male character in a story."

"The Hero Series'" focus  is  to  directly relate to young people on a common ground. Although, unfortunately,   today's  minority  communities,  like  the  setting  the  books  take  place  in  are inundated  with  profanity  and  illicit  connotations,  this series is able to grasp and make current communities  come  to  life  without  using  profanity  and  or  illicit statements. When the author, Jerald  LeVon  Hoover  wrote  these  books  he   had  one  thing   in  his  mind,  he  wanted  to "affectively"  touch  the minds  of young people in  a  "relational"  way, but at the same time, not compromise  and  use  the  languages  that  already  have  become  a part of our children's daily vocabulary.   He  sought  to  reach  them  in  another way, a way that would draw a picture in a more positive and heartrending manner filled with discretion.

The Hero Series  is  the  "signature"  work  of  the  author,  Jerald LeVon Hoover. Its ability to genuinely touch and  relate  to  "real"  life  situations  has  catapulted  the  book to a monumental cultural presence.  Masses on all levels have read and reread the books and have found them to be inspiring and rewarding.  They enlighten,  educate  and  persuade our young people to refrain from "any" activity that involves drugs and alcohol,  and all the while realize just how important it is to have an education.

Mr. Hoover  had  a  story  to  tell  before  he put a word on paper. Growing up in a lower class  community  and  seeing  family  members  become victims to society made it very easy for him to write these novels.  Not  only  was  he  encumbered by drug and alcohol infestation in his community, but also lost many family members to the same drugs. Seeing these tragedies unfold first-hand, has put him in the position to write from experience.
